A female Isla Vista resident and UCSB student reported to the IV
Foot Patrol that she was raped by a stranger outside her apartment
building on the 6600 block of Picasso Road. The woman alleged that
she was returning to her home from downtown Santa Barbara at about
2:30 on Sunday morning when a man grabbed her from behind, forcer
her against a wall and sexually assaulted her. According to police
reports, the woman did not know the man. The man was last scene
wearing a gray sweater. As the case is an on-going investigation,
no further details are available at this time.

Sgt. Eric Rainey, public information officer for the Santa
Barbara Sheriff’s Department, said that the attack was the first of
its type that the officers in I.V. have investigated this year. The
majority of sexual assault cases reported in I.V. are of the
acquaintance rape or date rape variety.
