Johnny Cash’s Personal File:

Johnny Cash’s Personal File: It’s a good thing someone searched the House of Cash after Johnny died, because they came across a collection of recordings that he’d dubbed “Personal File.” This posthumous album brings these songs, recorded mostly in the early ’70s, to all us fans, so … Pick it Up!

NEWS CHIEF GETS AXED:

Paul Vercammen, KEYT’s news director and Friday night anchor, was terminated last Tuesday, just days after his news department won an Emmy for best evening newscast. Vercammen’s departure, which was a surprise to many of his co-workers, came a few weeks after new station general manager Cathy Jacquemin assumed direction of Santa Barbara’s first local television station.

Bygone Beach Attire

When it comes to summer fashion, why let bygones be bygones? Heather Fields, owner of Bygones vintage shop located on East Ortega Street just behind the Greek Italian Deli, has spent years collecting relics that are simply too fabulous to let disappear into the past.

Lost Keys, Bad Acid, and Spacey Jazz

Coalition of the Willing

At SOhO, Tuesday, May 23.
I lost my car keys last Tuesday night and showed up 30 minutes late to the Coalition of the Willing show at SOhO. It had been a while since I had felt the sweaty panic and jaw-clenching frustration of searching for something that “f*&*ing vanished 10 minutes after I put them on the goddamn kitchen table!” Similarly, it had been quite some time since I had felt the sweet rush of relaxation you get after you find your keys stuffed in some weird corner of your house, sitting under a hanging window curtain as if that was where they belonged all along.

Body of Work

Contradiction

At Artamo Gallery, through July 9.
I’ve never realized how much I identify with whichever piece of art I happen to be standing in front of. Apparently, there is a deep, primitive part of my brain that does not understand visual illusion and that sees the whole work-of-art-as-window-on-the-world thing as nonsense.
