The 2005 edition of the Journal of Criminal Law and Criminology included a study of 340 prisoners who were wrongfully convicted of various crimes between the years 1989-2003 and subsequently exonerated. More than half of the prisoners served prison terms of 10 years or more and 80 percent had been in prison for at least five years. Imagine the years of torment in the mind of an innocent person.

Satini Puailoa II 1929-2006
As I stood in front of the crowd last Thursday at Sut Puailoa Field, listening to a Samoan group singing and watching Sut’s family dance, I thought: What an appropriate ending to a memorial service for our friend Satini Puailoa II. We were at San Marcos High School, among family and good friends, celebrating the life of a great human being with a highly inspirational Samoan ceremony.
