Goleta Water District Board Race Heats Up

The upcoming election to fill two seats on the Goleta Water District board has plunged the district into a cauldron of controversy that brings to mind the raucous water battles of the 1980s. Back then, water politics were the means by which the local citizenry fought against development in the suburban valley, and the board’s meetings got pretty rough.

Sonny Rollins played for two full hours without a break on Sunday night, and he received three standing ovations-one for walking onstage, one at the end of his regular set, and another at the end of the second encore. Rollins seemed happy with the commotion, pounding his fist to his chest and then punching it in the air to get the crowd going.

ART PARTY FOR TEENS

Angela Kelly is the director of a nonprofit called Project Renaissance that utilizes art to empower at-risk teens. Working in conjunction with the city’s Parks and Rec Department, City@Peace, and PUEBLO, Kelly throws “Art Parties” where kids can go on a Friday night.
