Judge Brian Hill wants to get through jury selection quickly and get the second trial of Corey Lyons underway soon after the New Year. Lyons, who will be back in court on 1/3, is accused of murdering his brother Daniel and Daniel’s life partner, Barbara Scharton, in the Mesa home he built for them and which would later become the subject of a bitter lawsuit. The first go-around ended in a mistrial after more than a month of testimony, when Hill ruled that testimony from Tom Lyons—who said that he and other family members were convinced of his brother’s guilt—was too prejudicial to the defendant and hearsay for the jury.
