Stand in the Sand, the Santa Barbara environmental group that hosted a 1,000-person strong demonstration on West Beach over the summer in the wake of BP’s Gulf oil disaster, donated over $8,000 this week to help recovery efforts in the area. “While most media have stopped reporting on the issues that face the Gulf region,” said Geoff Green, executive director of the Fund for Santa Barbara, which had been holding onto the cash until its release, “critical humanitarian and ecological recovery work is just beginning.” The funds were generated through benefit concerts, raffles, and personal donations.
