THE ARTIST WITHIN: “I’m trying to encourage the art of building forts,” said Gab Dimaranan after revealing they recently created a large one in their bedroom. They’re so serious about forts that they wrote a piece called “Fortlandia” for the fall issue of the student-driven I.V. arts magazine Word.

Imbued with an artistic flair, Dimaranan studied psychology at UCSB, but chose a career path in design instead. They were particularly inspired by an installation project they did for their college Street Art class that involved vinyl cutouts of famous people’s hair, inspiring quotes, and a public bathroom.

A self-taught graphic designer, Dimaranan joined The Santa Barbara Independent staff in June as an ad production designer. Welcome!
