SBCAST’s Third Thursday Films
New Monthly Series from Myriad Genres
The art galleries and museums may have put their stamp on the first Thursdays of each month, but Santa Barbara Center for Art, Science and Technology (SBCAST) is claiming the third “Thor’s Day,” as it was called in Old English, for their own. Beginning Thursday, November 17, SBCAST and Fishbon will present films once a month from myriad genres including experimental, art, music, political, social, and spiritual, among others.
“SBCAST and Fishbon are collaborating to offer a regular forum that presents out-of-the-ordinary films to the Santa Barbara community,” said SBCAST director Alan Macy in a press release. “Our first set of four mind-blowing and beautiful visual/music films will certainly establish the Third Thursday series as a Santa Barbara institution.” First up is Secrets, Dreams, Faith, and Wonder, an award-winning movie made by Santa Barbara filmmaker Stephen T. Pope. Next month features Lucky People Center International (Dec. 15), followed by Koyaanisqatsi: Life Out of Balance (Jan. 19, 2017) and Baraka: A World Beyond Words (Feb. 16, 2017).
Upcoming series include: Classic (Folk/Rock/Industrial); Concert Films (Mar.-June 2017); Conspiracy Theories (July-Oct. 2017); New Video Art and Digital Animation (Nov. 2017-Feb. 2018); Spirituality, Consciousness and Culture (Mar.-June 2018); and Special Event Series (July-Oct. 2018).
