Brent Montgomery was sentenced this week to seven years in prison after he strangled his long-term girlfriend, according to prosecutor Hannah Lucy. The 30-year-old had an extensive record and prior prison conviction. However, public defender Christine Voss said she does not consider this a strangling case, calling testimonies during the preliminary hearing “definitely muddied.” His girlfriend said in court that the two had a tumultuous relationship, Voss said, and on the day of the incident, May 31, 2015, she had wanted him to remain in the hotel room they were staying in to discuss their relationship. She tried to block his path, and it turned into a physical altercation. His prior strike, which did not involve the same victim, resulted in the prison sentence, Voss noted.
