[Update: Wed., Aug. 30, 2023, 3:00 p.m.] The Sheriff’s Office released details of the assault and subsequent arrest near Fairview Avenue on Wednesday, in which a 31-year-old Goleta woman allegedly stabbed a man and proceeded to barricade herself in a nearby residence until the Special Enforcement Team, Crisis Negotiation Team, and K-9 units were able to safely bring her into custody a few hours later.

According to a press release issued by Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Raquel Zick, deputies responded to reports of a stabbing near the Encina Meadows Apartments in Goleta around 7:15 a.m. When they arrived, they found an adult male victim near a bus stop with “severe lacerations.” The victim was taken to the hospital and treated with “serious, but non-life-threatening” injuries.

The suspect, Kebrina Alvarez, who was known to the victim, was tracked down to the Encino Royale Apartments across the street. Deputies were unable to get Alvarez to exit the apartment, and additional resources were called in to assist with the incident. Around 10:45 a.m., deputies arranged a search warrant for Alvarez and were able to enter the apartment to make an arrest without incident. She was taken to the hospital for medical clearance and will be booked into Santa Barbara County Jail for assault with a deadly weapon.
