Inmate Found with Large Amount of Drugs
Discovery Made Days Before He Was Sentenced to Eight Years in Prison
A man sentenced Monday to eight years in state prison was allegedly caught days before in possession of a large amount of drugs at the Santa Barbara County Jail.
According to a Sheriff’s spokesperson, Marcos Ramos, 33, was found with 4.5 grams of heroin, two dozen prescription pills, marijuana, and tobacco. Ramos — convicted by a Santa Barbara jury this summer of possession of a weapon by a felon — was to be transported to state prison in the coming days, but instead will likely stick around to face further charges.
Authorities believe Ramos received the drugs from fellow inmate Paul Bautista of Santa Maria, who allegedly smuggled them into the jail before passing them on. Sheriff’s deputies also arrested Samantha Aftergut, 34, in the unincorporated area of Santa Barbara, for allegedly providing the drugs to Bautista.
