Come for Ojai Day vendors and activities. Stay for Ojai Night with Spencer the Gardener performing a free community concert at the Libbey Bowl.
Ojai Day 2022 is returning to Libbey Park on Saturday, October 15, 2022, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., followed by a revival of Ojai Night from 5 to 8:30 p.m. This community celebration includes arts, activities and live entertainment with a local twist. Of the 75 exhibitors at Libbey Park, 80 percent will showcase Ojai Valley products and services. In addition to vendors and exhibits, participants can enjoy family-friendly activities, demonstrations and games, educational booths, food trucks, and a 3 p.m. dance concert at Libbey Bowl Ojai-based ABBA DABBA DOO! at 3:15 p.m.
After the vendors pack up, Libbey Bowl will reboot at 5 p.m. with a free community concert featuring Spencer the Gardener and friends. Spencer and his eight-piece band have been performing across the 805 and beyond for more than 40 years starting with his beach rock 80s group, the Tan. Today’s band embraces those beachy roots and adds a jazzy global flavor that promises to energize and entertain.
The Ojai Valley News takes the baton at 6:30 p.m. with an After Party and OVN birthday celebration at the Harvest Moon parking lot, next to Libbey Park. Stop by for live music with Raging Arb and the Redheads. Food and drinks will be available to purchase as the community comes together to close out Ojai Night.
While Ojai Day has been around for more than 40 years, the event has made an intentional return to its local roots these past two years. Exhibitor outreach now prioritizes Ojai Valley area artists, vendors, nonprofits and educators and the event has shifted so that most exhibits are now in Libbey Park. This allows Ojai Avenue to remain open and businesses to operate as usual. Adding the evening events provides additional opportunities for people to come together beyond the festival setting.
“We are building a more connected event, and initial feedback has been positive,” says City Manager James Vega. “We are making Ojai Day a little more about Ojai.”
Ojai Day kicks off with a 10:30 a.m. opening ceremony at the Mandala at the Libbey Park fountain. There will be drumming, dance, song and Chumash Elder Julie Tumamait-Stenslie will offer a traditional Chumash blessing. Those who would like to help create the 30th Ojai Mandala the weekend prior to Ojai Day, can contact weston.montgomery@ojai.ca.gov for more information.
