One Florida Man Killed, Five Oxnard Residents Hospitalized Following Crash That Shut Down Highway Overnight in Santa Barbara County
[Update: Mon., Aug. 21, 2023, 9:55am] California Highway Patrol has released more details on the fatal crash that occurred early Saturday morning on Highway 154. In an incident report released Monday morning, CHP stated that the Nissan Altima, driven by a 22-year-old resident of South Jacksonville, Florida, was traveling westbound “at an undetermined speed” when it traveled “across the double yellow lines and into the eastbound lane, directly into the path of the Infiniti” SUV, which was traveling eastbound at approximately 55 miles per hour.
The driver of the Nissan, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, died at the scene as a result of his injuries.
The five occupants of the Infiniti, all residents of Oxnard, were injured in the crash. The SUV’s 57-year-old female driver and a 69-year-old female passenger sustained major injuries in the crash, and the three others — a 61-year-old woman, 75-year-old woman, and 53-year-old man — suffered moderate injuries. All five were transported to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital for treatment.
