After months of sitting at the bargaining table with an expired contract between them, the Board of Supervisors voted to impose a contract on the 414 county employees represented by SEIU Local 721. The contract represents a 3.5 percent across-the-board wage reduction, a 40-hour furlough, a freeze of all merit step increases, and an elimination of the ability to cash out vacation leave and sick time, among other terms. The implementation — which was supported by all supervisors but 2nd District Supervisor Janet Wolf — came after a mediator tried to move the sides toward an agreement and a union rejection of the county’s last, best, and final offer.
