Come out to our Ladies’ Strumming Social Club mixer potluck picnic and singing circle!

This event is free of charge, and it’s a great way to get to know the group. We’re a group of women / female-identified folks who meet nearly weekly to play music together and sing.

It’s a workshop for the guitar/bass/ukulele and singing. We learn roughly two songs each session and then dig into our archives of popular hits to round out the sessions, which last an hour and a half.

Come get to know us at the picnic!

Ladies’ Strumming Social Club: The goal is to teach folks how to play with one another, have fun playing and singing together, and develop confidence around playing together in a group, as music has traditionally been something folks have done together (and I think it’s the most fun when done together with others!).

When: nearly every Monday of the month from 5.30 to 7pm.

Where: at JAMS, a music nonprofit on Milpas (631 1/2 N. Milpas St., Santa Barbara, CA 93103)

Cost: $10 to $25 sliding scale per session (pay what you can), and the scale can slide down further if needed— I want it to be accessible to everyone. Please bring cash for that (we don’t take Venmo), thanks!

Bring: Please bring your instrument and a music stand if you’d like to. (If not, we have a ton of instruments and stands you can use at JAMS.) I’ll provide the materials (chord charts, song books, etc…). And help me spread the word if you can— if you know anyone else who would be interested, please send them my way.

More info:

In this ongoing workshop, women will learn the fundamentals of guitar, bass, ukulele and even autoharp (each participant can select one of these instruments to play).

–       learn how to play and sing popular songs together

–       the common structures and progressions of popular songs

–       how to transpose songs into different keys to accommodate their own vocal ranges

–       how to improvise and play simple solos

–       how to begin to play by ear

–       how to play music with others

–       and more…

Participants will have the opportunity to meet other local musically inclined women and connect socially as well as musically. We will periodically have (optional) performances, giving the participants the opportunity to showcase what they have learned. If you are interested, please contact Maria at maria@jamsmusic.org.
