As a result of the Carthaginian Hannibal’s genius as a military general (217-202 BC), every strategist since, including Machiavelli and military commanders up to the present, emulates his program for adding nature to his arsenal and his use of military intelligence and topography, which is why Hannibal’s tactics are still taught as relevant spy craft.
This lecture by Patrick Hunt (Stanford University) is the annual Norton Lecture sponsored by the Archaeological Institute of America in cooperation with UCSB’s departments of History, Classics, Art History and Archaeology.
