Tales of Ultra Long-Distance Bicycle Touring with Jim Landau
Thursday, May 18th, 6:30pm
Faulkner Gallery, Santa Barbara Public Library
40 E. Anapamu St., Santa Barbara, CA
Join SBPL for a special CycleMAYnia edition of Trail Talks. Local bicycle enthusiast Jim Landau will recount his experiences bicycle touring into the far north of Canada and Alaska from Santa Barbara, sharing stories of his adventures as well as practical considerations for those who wish to embark on similar journeys.
Jim Landau has been a passionate bicyclist since childhood. In Santa Barbara, he managed two bicycle shops before transitioning into nanotechnology. He has completed 6 long-distance bicycle tours that have all been over 8,000 miles apiece, including two rides that crossed the Arctic Circle from Santa Barbara. He has bike packed the local backcountry extensively, as well as shorter trips all over North America. When not cycling, he is an avid bluegrass musician and plays mandolin and guitar.
Founded in 2009, CycleMAYnia is a program of the Traffic Solutions Division at the Santa Barbara County Association of Governments aimed at celebrating the vibrant bike culture in Santa Barbara featuring events and partnerships during May to expand the reach of cycling to a greater number of riders and connect cycling to a more diverse demographic while bringing the joy and benefit of biking to as many people as possible in the greater Santa Barbara area. This free presentation is part of the Trail Talks series hosted by the Santa Barbara Public Library.
The next talk in the series is Thursday, June 15th, The Carrizo Plain in Photos with Chuck Graham.
