Both the IRS and California personal tax deadline of April 18 was moved to October 16 for 51 counties with disaster declarations, including Santa Barbara County.
In this video, Senator Alex Padilla lists some of the new tax credits available, such as clean energy credits for homes, home improvements, and new and used vehicles. As well, tax credits like the Earned Income Tax Credit and both state and federal child credits give money back, even to those who don’t owe on their taxes — a tax form does need to be filed, however, to receive the credits, which can amount to several thousands of dollars.
The details are delivered English, but also in Spanish at 5:29 and 14:47. References are given to a number of websites for help preparing taxes for low-income earners. The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program is likely to end by April 18, and tax officials advise filing taxes well before October 16, if possible.
