A group of artists have dedicated a new zine to raising awareness of the fight to save the San Marcos Foothills Preserve, unceded Chumash land, from destructive development, led by freelance photographer Jean Ziesenhenne. (Full disclosure, Ziesenhenne has worked for the Indy, and one of the zine’s contributors is Indy web manager Celina Garcia.) Community members and land defenders rallied together stopping bulldozers from entering the preserve, were arrested, and stood guard for weeks, until the developer finally gave the community days to buy back this unceded land. The community continues to show up and have raised millions of dollars. Artists have shared their work expressing the impact the foothills have, from the movement of the land defenders and allies, to the nature and land itself. The fundraising deadline is June 1. If you like the zine, please feel free to make a donation directly to foothillsforever.org.

Physical copies of this zine will also be sold at a pop-up market at the foothills on Sunday, May 30, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and are also available via direct message from @sbfilmcoop on Instagram.
