In a video posted by a member of UCSB’s Iranian Academic Community (IAC), protesters from the group gathered in front of Girvetz Hall to wave signs reading “Freedom for Women” and sing “Soroode Barabari” (an equality anthem) in support of Mahsa Amini. The 22-year-old was killed in police custody in Iran after she was apprehended in Tehran and taken to a “re-education center,” on an accusation of “violating the law on head scarves.”

While IAC protests daily, the collective is planning a “Freedom for Iran” rally on October 1 on West Beach next to Stearns Wharf at 3 p.m.
