Detente

Camerata Pacifica’s April Concert

At Victoria Hall Theater, Friday, April 7.
Two unusual and overtly confrontational pieces in the first half of this concert-by Alfred Schnittke and William Bolcom-set the stage for a marvelously warm, if not exactly relaxed Shostakovich cello sonata in the second. Tenderness and Truthtelling

Anne Lamott and Mary Chapin Carpenter

At UCSB’s Campbell Hall, Tuesday, April 4.
It’s good to hear the simple truth, whether it’s pretty or not. It relieves us from the burden of denial, and it restores our faith. As artists, author Anne Lamott and singer/songwriter Mary Chapin Carpenter are stylistically distinct, but on the final night of their first joint tour, they both ministered tenderly to the audience by telling their truths.

UCSB BUNNIES:

They haven’t met Hugh Heffner yet, but that didn’t stop three UCSB undergrads from hyping their scantily clad Playboy spread in Isla Vista last Tuesday as part of a publicity tour.
